What is a virus?
A computer virus, a type of malware, is a program that is intended to spread from one system to another via a contaminated program, file, or document. A computer virus is the digital equivalent of the flu, spreading from one host to another, often undetected and often replicating or altering itself. While some computer viruses are immediately active, others remain dormant for some time, working slowly to cause destruction over time. A computer virus may be used as a way to frustrate the computer owner, simply for fun by the creator. However, others are created for malicious reasons such as stealing personal information or for financial gain.Individuals who write viruses are always coming up with new ways to fool their prospects into downloading the virus. And as our lives become more connected via technology, it may be even easier to trick us into downloading it. Victims often fall prey to an email attachment, a social media post that requires a download or sign-in for access, or a music file that contains a virus.Computer viruses work in phases during their life cycle. Once a virus accesses its target’s computer, it may sit dormant while waiting to be triggered by the user. Triggering of the virus happens when the computer owner runs the program or file the virus is located within. Not all viruses have a dormant phase; some run immediately. As soon as the virus starts propagating or multiplying or replicating itself, it has moved to a new phase. The virus will copy itself and transfer to other programs or machines on the network. Each infected program will have a clone of the original virus which will then also go into a propagation phase. The triggering phase of the virus’s life cycle is when the virus completes its intended function. This is often when the virus destroys your computer, steals your personal information, or begins spamming your contacts.Infected machines often require software to remove the virus from the infected programs. Depending on the virus type, new hardware may also be needed to repair the damage, as some viruses will attack system critical files on the computer. Are you worried about becoming the victim of a computer virus? What is spyware?

Spyware is a software that is intended to collect information about a person or organization without the owner’s knowledge. It uses information from the computer to either send to another system or take control over the computer. It runs in the background collecting data like passwords, financial information, business credentials and all Internet habits. It can even record keystrokes, also known as keyloggers, to track the use and communication from a computer’s keyboard.

Additionally, Spyware can compromise the overall computer’s performance and settings. These malicious attempts can affect the computer by installing more unwanted software, reducing connection speeds, redirecting web searches and serving pop up-ads. When the hard drive is affected, it can sometimes be difficult to reverse the damages and sometimes, it may even require a clean re-installation.

The majority of the time, spyware is injected in clusters with multiple infections. It can be mistaken for faulty hardware or other performance issues. The four most common types of spyware are adware, system monitors, tracking cookies and Trojans.

Pre-Sales

Can you come live with us for a week?

We get this question quite often. ModulaOne Network is happy to come out and be there for you when needed, but we can’t live on site and be your personal geek for more than a day. You have to be willing to share the geeks with your neighbors.

Does ModulaOne Network offer remote support?

Yes. As long as you have an Internet connection, we can access your system remotely from our office to solve problems, perform software upgrades, and remove and protect against viruses and malware. Click here, for more information.

Does ModulaOne Network recycle old electronics?

Yes! 75% of resources and energy used by computers are consumed during manufacturing. Help reduce that energy cost by extending the life of your computer and its components. Even if a computer is unusable, the parts within may still be recycled to bring technology and tools to less fortunate individuals around the globe. Every computer thrown into a landfill or dump is a missed opportunity, and a hazard to the environment. We currently accept any and all laptops, PCs, peripherals and parts, and cell phones.

How long it typically takes to solve a problem?

Most support sessions take about two to three hours. The session may be much shorter or longer depending on the number of and severity of issues. In some cases when a computer is heavily infected with viruses and/or spyware, work may need to continue by doing an in-home or in-office onsite visit by one of our certified technical experts.

How much does your service cost?

We offer different service options: Flat fee, hourly rate, block rates and monthly subscriptions. More Info

How quickly will you have a technician physically dispatched to my location?

Is remote support safe and secure?

No matter what type of computer usage you have, there is a high chance you will need tech support for your machine at one point or another. When you reach out to a technician to handle your computer problems, they will often ask for remote access to your computer in order to troubleshoot the problem.

This process can be very intimidating to someone who has never experienced it before. You may worry that the technician can gain access to your personal files or that they can continue to access your computer long after the call ends. Fortunately, none of these are true.

When you download the software needed to grant access to a third party, you are given a few key safety features. For starters, computer owners can see everything that the technician is doing on the computer. No software can be downloaded, files viewed, or content removed without the owner being able to see what happens.

As the computer owner, you can also stop the process at any time via a Control Panel.

Remote computer support is safe and secure but make sure that you use a business that is reputable and willing to share their security measures before they gain access to your computer. If the tech has something to hide, do not give them access to your computer.

Is your work guaranteed?

We will always work with you to make sure you’re satisfied with our work. If you ever have a question or concerns over a service, our customer satisfaction team is ready to make sure you are happy with our service.

Please understand the volatile nature of computers, and that some problems can be recurring but not necessarily due to poor service on our part. For example, some computers are reinfected with the same virus or spyware after a user repeats the same actions that got the system infected in the first place.
If you have service performed and are not happy with the results we will work with you to complete the job to your satisfaction.
